Good Day at Pop-up Raleigh

July 20, 2025by Hugh Daniel

We had a decent sales day at Pop-up Raleigh yesterday, although it was very hot. One observation that I feel that I need to make is that, after discussion with a number of the other artisans at the pop-up, we are in fact dealing with a depressed economy. Unlike recent years, people seem reluctant to spend due to the uncertain economy fostered by the current administration. The economic chaos is an actual hidden tax on artists and a burden to bear by those making a living from their craft. Everyone commented on the fact that their prices have needed to be reduced in order to encourage buyers. Still and all, we have to keep pluggin’ and work towards future change. There were several standout moments, one of which was a small child’s fascination with a crochet pink bunny made by Karen. She was delighted when her mother purchased it for her and the delight was wonderful to see. Another was when a boy about 3 or 4 years old fell in love with my rock dioramas. He had trouble making up his mind and had to make the animal sounds associated with each one, finally settling on a cute brown dog diorama with a crystal rock backdrop. At these art market sales, sometimes I think the children are our best sales people. Seeing them enjoy our items was definitely the best part of my day!
